Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One is imminent, And while the trailer gave us a pretty overwhelming look at the inside of the OASIS, we still have yet to see what the dystopian reality looks like outside of the virtual world. Today, three up-and-coming talents have begun to reap the rightful rewards of recent, excellent work. Deadline has the exclusive that the psychological thriller Thoroughbred has cast three stars in leading roles, giving an intriguing premise the talent needed to realize its full potential...
First revealed a few weeks ago, the lead actress shortlist for Star Wars: Episode 8 includes Tatiana Maslany, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez, and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’s Olivia Cooke. That’s a pretty solid list, but a new rumor suggests that another name has been added to it: Gugu Mbatha-Raw, star of last year’s incredibly powerful music drama Beyond the Lights.
Though Me and Earl and the Dying Girl may not have been the sleeper hit that Fox Searchlight hoped for this summer, it at least has propelled its lead actress to stardom. Fresh of that Sundance hit, Olivia Cooke has been cast as one of two leads in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi adventure Ready Player One.
In addition to being on the shortlist for a leading role in Star Wars: Episode 8, rising star Olivia Cooke is also on a shortlist for another major upcoming film: Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s nostalgia-driven novel Ready Player One. Cooke is currently in contention for the role along with Elle Fanning and Mistress America newcomer Lola Kirke.
We’re still a few months away from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Rian Johnson is already hard at work prepping Episode 8. While it remains unclear how much of The Force Awakens cast will return for the sequel, there will be some new additions to the lineup as Johnson and Lucasfilm have already begun looking at actors for leading roles.
