Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Kung Fu Panda 3 once again led the box office this weekend, but like its lower-than-expected opening weekend, it’s not as impressive as anyone was hoping or expecting. DreamWorks Animation’s sequel managed to fend off a trio of newcomers, but each of those films disappointed in their own ways, leading to a shrug-worthy top 10 that feels like Hollywood just accepting that everyone is going to be watching the Super Bowl instead of going to the movies.

Following the debut of the first teaser a couple of weeks ago comes the first full trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Seth Grahame-Smith’s mashup that combines — well, the title makes it obvious, no? Corsets, zombies, proper ladies training themselves in the art of war…it’s all just sort of delightfully bonkers. Here’s hoping the full film can live up to the insanity of the trailers.

“Oh great, another Jane Austen adaptation,” may be one of your thoughts during the first 30 seconds of the debut trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. “Fantastic, more British women in bonnets talking about books.” But wait, you totally forgot about the last word in the film’s title. ZOMBIES, BABY!

Screen Gems is taking Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to Hall H next week at Comic-Con, where we’ll likely see the first trailer from the upcoming period horror flick. Ahead of the studio’s appearance at the con next week, they’ve released a batch of new photos from the film, which is based on the Seth Grahame-Smith mashup novel of the same name.

Warner Bros. did some light scheduling today, rearranging the upcoming Vacation sequel/reboot, while Screen Gems officially gave Pride and Prejudice and Zombies an appropriately romantic release date. The former has been moved up from October to July, while the latter has been given a slot in February 2016.

It's been awhile since we heard anything on the 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' movie since 'The Mortal Instruments' star Lilly Collins was said to be up for the leading role, but now, more than a year after that piece of info dropped, comes a firmed-up cast for the film.

We recently posted about 'Jane Got a Gun,' which is one of the most troubled productions going these days, but it's got nothing on the adaptation of 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' which has gone in and out development since the book was published in 2009. Now it looks like it might finally get made with Lily Collins in negotiations to be its leading lady.

It's funny that 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' is deals with the dead returning to life, because the feature adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith popular (but widely mocked) novel has died and been resurrected more times than we can count.
