Resident Evil 6

No film franchise has more endings than Resident Evil. The second movie was Resident Evil: Apocalypse, which sounds mighty final. Nope! Next came Resident Evil: Extinction. Hell, nothing follows extinction. Except the Afterlife! That was the next movie. Only the fifth movie, Resident Evil: Retribution, didn’t sound like a nod toward a conclusion. And now there’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the finalest final Resident Evil yet! At least until the next movie.

It's hard to imagine that before 'The Walking Dead' shot to fame, Capcom's 'Resident Evil' franchise helped spark the pop culture revival of the undead. Now, while a sixth film in the divisive video game horror franchise remains in limbo, German production house Constantin claims to be developing a 'Resident Evil' TV series for the future.

Often horror sequels run out of steam the further they go along, but -- for one reason or another -- the 'Resident Evil' films have proved very successful, especially internationally. That may be why the sixth film in the franchise is now dated for September 12, 2014 .
