It has long been a fine American tradition to escape the awkward enclosure of your parents’ house over your holiday vacation and spend a few hours in the local movie theater, where everyone can shut up about politics and stop swapping passive aggressive comments on each other’s lifestyle for a few hours. 2016 was no different, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Sing drawing in the big crowds while La La Land and Fences impressed in limited release. Not so impressive: Passengers, Why Him?, and Assassin’s Creed, each of which underperformed.

In a world where Marvel can’t seem to get their TV and movie branches to cooperate, Star Wars managed to delight fans of either medium with back-and-forth appearances for Star Wars Rebels and Rogue One. Now, a Lucasfilm story group member speaks out on the interplay between the two, teasing “Rebels and Rogue One are all just the start of a larger strategy.”

The fun thing about a sci-fi franchise as big as Star Wars is how everyone wants to be in it. There are a ton of “secret” cameos in the two newest films — the most high profile of which, so far, is Daniel Craig as that Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens — but Rogue One also got its share. There are a ton of voice cameos in the movie, most of which are from members of the filmmaking crew and voice actors who usually lend their talents to the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels animated series.

Between the trailers, teasers and TV spots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we found more than enough scenes (18, to be exact) that didn’t appear in the film when it hit theaters last weekend — clearly due to all those highly-publicized reshoots in post-production. Weirdly enough, Lucasfilm has released a new Rogue One featurette that reveals even more scenes that didn’t make the final cut, including what appears to be an entire sequence filmed in Jordan.

If you’ve seen Rogue One by now, you’ve probably noticed a lot of the moments we all saw in the trailers didn’t actually make the final cut of the movie. Apparently the movie went through a lot more edits than just reshoots though, because according to director Gareth Edwards, the original script had a vastly different ending from what the movie ended up with. Star Wars fans taking in Rogue One this weekend may have noticed some surprising connections to the animated iterations of a galaxy far, far away, including multiple Rebels easter eggs and a notable Clone Wars connection. That connection may get much more overt, as new promo art reportedly places Saw Gerrera in line for a Star Wars Rebels appearance this season.

Even if you’re not the biggest fan of CGI actors returned from the dead, you probably had to appreciate the ways that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards tried to bring the events of Star Wars: A New Hope more directly into his film. In several key sequences, Edwards was even able to feature unseen footage from the original 1977 film, causing fans to wonder where that new footage came from (and why they hadn’t seen it before).
