Following news that CBS had an eye toward adapting Frank Baum's 1900 classic as medical drama 'Dorothy,' NBC has begun development on its own fantasy take, 'Emerald City,' utilizing a darker, 'Game of Thrones'-influenced approach to the classic story.

Iconic cinema classic 'The Wizard of Oz' has spawned numerous TV attempts, everything from the Sci-Fi channel's 'Tin Man,' to Syfy's 'Warriors of Oz,' to a 'Game of Thrones'-style 'Red Brick Road' and even 'Once Upon A Time,' so what's next? The Syfy channel wants to get in on the recent resurgence of 'The Wizard of Oz'-related material with their own revised and rebooted Oz. The plan is to move the story to a post-apocalyptic future, and have 'Abraham LIncoln: Vampire Hunter' director Timur Bekmambetov at the helm of their version, which is titled 'Warriors of Oz.'

Hollywood's 3D reissue craze might be slowing down a bit in the wake of underwhelming returns for releases like 'Finding Nemo 3D,' but it hasn't stopped entirely. In fact, this fall, Warner Bros. will celebrate the 75th birthday of 'The Wizard of Oz' by sending a newly restored print to theaters for a special one-week run in IMAX 3D.
