War for the Planet of the Apes

Filming is currently underway on War for the Planet of the Apes, with Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves returning to helm the third installment in the revitalized trilogy. Today, Reeves revealed the official logo for the upcoming film, and teased a special “announcement” to air this Sunday during The Walking Dead on AMC. Hmm, what could it be?

Director Matt Reeves has officially begun filming War for the Planet of the Apes, as evidenced by a new photo from the set which features a scene that may be familiar to fans of the long-running franchise. In addition, Reeves has revealed that he’s shooting the film in 65mm, and although only a few cast members have been announced, we’re sure to hear more about the next installment very soon.

Character actor Steve Zahn is a national treasure, and it looks like he’s going to be flexing a different acting muscle in his next project. The actor will rally on the side of the apes in Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes, following in the footsteps of Toby Kebbell, whose incredible portrayal of Koba in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes nearly stole the show.

Good news: War of the Planet of the Apes has added Woody Harrelson to the cast. Bad news: Woody Harrelson will not be playing an ape. It’s been a little while since we had an update on the third installment in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise. So far, we know Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is on board to helm the sequel, with screenwriter Mark Bomback also returning. Today brings the first piece of casting for the film, which is operating under the working title War of the Planet of the Apes and has just cast newcomer Gabriel Chavarria in a leading role.
