‘Triple 9’ Trailer: An Intense Heist Thriller With an Insane Cast
I don’t think I’ve ever not recognized Kate Winslet in a movie before. But I did not recognize her in the latest trailer for Triple 9. It wasn’t until her name flashed onscreen that I even realized it was her — and even then I had to rewind to see for myself. According to Wikipedia, which is never wrong, she plays “a Russian-Israeli Mafia moll.” My favorite kind of Mafia moll!

John Hillcoat is the director behind The Road and Lawless, which makes Triple 9 an instant must-see. Originally conceived as a starring vehicle for Lawless star Shia LaBeouf, Triple 9 was put on the back burner for a few years before Hillcoat got back to work on it, replacing LaBeouf with Casey Affleck for this nasty little crime thriller. The first trailer has arrived, and as the red band warning promises, things get very, very brutal.

‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ Adds Woody Harrelson as an Evil Human
Good news: War of the Planet of the Apes has added Woody Harrelson to the cast. Bad news: Woody Harrelson will not be playing an ape. Good news: Woody Harrelson will be playing a mysterious character known as “the Colonel,” which means he’ll probably have at least one scene where he fist-fights an ape to the death. After all, movie characters whose names are just military titles do that kind of thing.

‘SNL’ Scorecard: Woody Harrelson Wins the Quarter Quell
Woody Harrelson’s third time as host of ‘SNL’–and his first since way back in 1992 (he hosted just a few weeks after Jason Priestly)–was actually pretty great. Anticipation for an ‘SNL’ host is a fickle beast. Now, one might circle the calendar when he or she sees, say, Chris Rock’s name show up as host, then that show winds up being a bust. I suspect that not a lot of people were thinking, Oh, man, Woody Harrelson is hosting ‘SNL’! I need to cancel all of my plans because that will be one I can’t miss. Then Harrelson goes out and is everything we want out of a host: funny, up for anything, looks like he’s having fun, willing to sing a song about apples that is still stuck in my head. Anyway, he hosted the best show of the season so far and here is your ‘SNL’ Scorecard.

'SNL' Goes After the Modern Sitcom With 'The Dudleys'
Few things are as desperate, unfunny and generally sad as the modern television sitcom, so it's only natural that ‘SNL’ would put this format right in its sights. While ‘The Dudleys’ may not be as wild or transgressive as something like ‘Too Many Cooks,’ its satire of the trouble with TV comedy in the year 2014 is on point, concluding with a statement that's surprisingly (and welcomingly) vicious for modern ‘SNL.’
