Kevin Bacon Returning to ‘Tremors’ for TV Reboot, Fresh Off the Assembly Line
Well, it worked for Ash vs. Evil Dead, and we’ve more than breached the Age of the Legacyquel, so why shake things up for Tremors? That’s right, the worm has turned on the 1990 cult classic once more, getting the TV reboot treatment with Kevin Bacon finally set to reprise his role.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Bacon has set his return to a new iteration of Tremors, which itself spawned four direct-to-video sequels and a prior TV series. Following The Following (heh), Bacon will both reprise his role as Valentine McKee, and act as executive producer to writer Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle). This early in the process, no network has been set between Universal Cable and Blumhouse Productions.
For those unaware of the franchise, the original Tremors saw monstrous burrowing “Graboid” worms invading the town of Perfection, Nevada from beneath, and starred Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire. Bacon previously declined any opportunity to return to the franchise, despite earlier this year expressing an interest in revisiting his character.
Multiple networks are reportedly bidding (or burrowing) into the project, but could Tremors succeed as the next TV revival, particularly under Bacon’s return? What might a new series do that the 2003 version couldn’t? Check out the original trailer below.
