‘Cube’ Director to Helm Syfy ‘Tremors’ Series With Kevin Bacon
Don’t be alarmed by those vibrations in the ground, it’s just the Kevin Bacon-starring Tremors TV series gearing up. Syfy has booked Cube and Splice director Vincenzo Natali to helm the pilot episode, picking up from the cult classic 1990 film.
Deadline confirms that Natali will direct the pilot, reuniting with Cube star and Tremors showrunner Andrew Miller. In addition to his film work, Natali also has an extensive TV directing career, including episodes of Westworld, Luke Cage, American Gods, Orphan Black and The Strain.
Bacon will both star in and executive produce the new series, which picks up twenty-five years later with his character Valentine McKee “attempting to save the town again — but this time, also battling age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.” The Secret Circle alum Andrew Miller will showrun, as executive produced by Jason Blum and David Schiff.
For those unaware of the franchise, the original Tremors saw monstrous burrowing “Graboid” worms invading the town of Perfection, Nevada, with a cast that featured Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire. The film also spawned four direct-to-video sequels and a prior TV series.
