The moment it became apparent that the 'Twilight' series was to adapt its entire four-book saga for the movies, and perhaps even before, the 'Harry Potter' franchise comparisons flew. And like the 'Harry Potter' franchise, studios figured that by splitting the final installment of a franchise into two films, the hype and box-office gross could grow to enormous proportions. Still, by their repsective ends 'Harry Potter' will have a full three movies on 'Twilight,' so how could bigwigs possibly bridge that gulf? Did somebody say 'Twilight,' the TV series?

Tragically, yes. Someone did.

In a rumor that could potentially send tweens around the world into cardiac arrest, Moviehole is reporting that the 'Twilight' saga could carry on into a TV series folowing the upcoming release of its film franchise final installment, 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.' While still strictly a rumor, the gossip suggests that Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are swilling around the idea of creating a "TV show or film spin-off, merely set in the same world as the one in the movies but not featuring the main trio."

The idea to expand upon the film franchise spawned by the Stephanie Meyer novels would no doubt be spurred on by Marvel and ABC's upcoming 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series, set in the same universe as the Marvel films, but featuring (mostly) all-new characters. According to Moviehole's report, "one area of interest" to explore for a 'Twilight' TV series would be that of the Wolf Pack, perhaps avoiding repetition in a supernatural TV playing field already dominated by vampires.

What do you think? Could 'Twilight' really live on past the movies with a TV series? Would you tune in to see characters other than Bella, Edward and Jacob?
