In the weekly column Extra Credit, Charles Bramesco recommends supplemental viewing for moviegoers whose interests have been piqued by a given week’s big new release.

Everyone’s bustling to complete everything left to do before the end of the year so that we may all nestle before a roaring fireplace, secure in the knowledge that we don’t have to think about work until 2018. In that spirit, I’m trying to cover as much ground as possible this week, and there’s a lot of ground to cover.

There‘s always a spike in significant releases during the last weeks of December as studios scramble to get all their awards horses in under the Oscar deadline of January 1. As such, the next ten days see public unveilings for the latest films from such heavy-hitter auteurs of American cinema as Paul Thomas Anderson, Steve Spielberg, Alexander Payne, Ridley Scott, and Aaron Sorkin. Instead of selecting the customary five recommendations for one film, I’ve spread the wealth and paired each of the five aforementioned movies with one suggested supplement. Here’s what to stream after you see Molly’s Game, The Post, Phantom Thread, All the Money in the Worldand Downsizing. Read on, and happy holidays:
