The 'Wish I Was Here' trailer arrives approximately one decade since Zach Braff's feature directorial debut, 'Garden State,' and, for better or worse, it looks like time hasn't changed him very much. Braff's second effort looks very much like a spiritual sequel to his previous film, all the way down to the indie rock soundtrack.

Although plenty of critics and movie fans took Braff to task for his sentimentality, there's definitely an audience for 'Wish I Was Here,' which was partially funded as part of a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign. People like Braff and they apparently want to see him in another movie where he listens to The Shins, ponders what he's doing with his life and hangs out with a really strong supporting cast (including Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad and former 'Scrubs' co-star Donald Faison).

And you know what? More power to him. The 'Wish I Was Here' trailer sells the film's hip, slightly off-kilter tone more than its plot (which includes fantasy sequences set in a sci-fi universe) and it will surely please those already initiated into the Braff cult. The rest of us will tread with a little more caution.

Here's the official synopsis:

Director Zach Braff's follow-up to his indie breakout hit 'Garden State' is a comedy telling the story of a thirtysomething man who finds himself at major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his career, and his family.

'Wish I Was Here' is slated to arrive in theaters on July 25.
