The Razzies are a tough award show to love. Oh, I’m sure plenty of people probably read the headline to this article and  —  depending on their opinion of both Dinesh D’Souza and the DC Cinematic Universe  —  found great comfort in the public mockery of Hillary’s America and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But while awards shows in general might serve the noble purpose of raising awareness about powerful films, the annual Razzie Awards often feel like you’re kicking someone when they’re already down. They’ve already flopped with audiences and critics; what other definition of failure do you need?

So consider me a little conflicted about this year’s  —  and every year’s  —  Razzie winners. On the one hand, it’s nice to see lazy filmmaking like Hillary’s America have its moment in the limelight, but there are plenty of movies and performances on this list that run the gamut from unfair or just plain wrong. I mean, Ben Affleck’s strong performance in Batman v Superman was pretty much the only thing people could agree on that they liked!

There aren’t a lot of surprises from the winners; as usual, the Razzies have singled out big-budget failures more often than the out-and-out bad films. If laughing at the misfortune of blockbusters is your thing, then by all means, go right ahead, but I think I’ll skip right ahead to the next part of my weekend. Life’s too short for both bad movies and bad awards ceremonies. Did you know that Moonlight is on VOD now? I think I’ll watch that again instead.
