'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' is actually happening, and casting is coming together now. Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Christina Applegate, and Kristen Wiig are already signed on, and now word is that James Marsden has joined the cast as a rival anchor.

This news comes from Deadline Hollywood, who note that the plot is being kept under wraps. What's interesting about this is that the first film played up the rivalries between competing news anchors, with Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson fellow anchors, and this led up to the first films justly revered "Anchor Fight" sequence that brought in even more cameos (and a trident). This may suggest that both Vaughn and Wilson will not be in this movie.

James Marsden is probably best known as Cyclops from the first three 'X-Men' movies, but he can be an inspired comic performer, something those who've seen him in 'Sex Drive' would know, and something that '30 Rock' took advantage of. With his boyish good looks, he still hasn't found the right place for himself in Hollywood, but perhaps this will show what a talented goofball he can be. 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' is scheduled to open December 20.
