Ever since the release of 'The Avengers,' people have been talking up shawarma, as it's a key joke in the movie. For those not in the know, it's a Arabic style of food preparation that puts meat (chicken, beef or lamb) on a spit and roasts it for a day (sometimes longer). It's also delicious. And now we know where The Avengers went to get this tasty dish.

One Mr. Edgar Wright tweeted today:

The Shwarma place is a real location & located at 'Elat Burger', 9340 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035. Truth!

And yes you can get shawarma there, along with burgers and fries. Yelp gives it a three and a half star rating out of five, with a number of five star reviews. Those who didn't like it complain that the shawarma is a bit dry. But the food item has become more popular as TMZ reported recently that Los Angeles chain Ro Ro's Chicken saw its sales jump 80%.

This isn't shawarma's first brush with fame, as it seems that there was a bump in sales when 'You Don't Mess With the Zohan' hit theaters in 2008. Our favorite reference would come from Beck, who in the song 'Debra' pays homage to one of LA's best shawarma joints when he crooned: "Like a fruit that's ripe for the picking' / I wouldn't do you like that / Zankou Chicken."
