See the Cast of 'Blossom' Then and NowBritt Hayes |
'Blossom' debuted on NBC in 1991, giving 'tween and teen girls a new character to relate to: Blossom Russo, a teenage girl who lived with her two brothers and her father, and learned life lessons about abuse, drugs, and divorce -- not your typical family sitcom, to say the least. But Blossom wasn't your average girl, either, and that's what made her special. She was quirky, had cool fashion sense and, above all, she was relateable. The show ended almost 20 years ago, so join us for a look at the cast of this classic sitcom and see what they're up to now!
Mayim Bialik -- Blossom Russo
Then: Mayim Bialik played the title character, Blossom, the youngest daughter of her divorced father. Blossom had two brothers and a best friend named Six, and together they all learned valuable life lessons about the tougher elements of life.
Now: Bialik left acting for a bit to focus on school, and received her PhD in neuroscience. She had a recurring role on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' as Jodi Funkhauser, Marty's daughter, and appeared in an episode of TLC's 'What Not to Wear,' in which she received a makeover. She currently stars on 'The Big Bang Theory' as Amy Farrah Fowler -- a role which has netted her a pair of Emmy nominations.
Ted Wass -- Nick Russo
Then: Ted Wass played Nick, Blossom's divorced father. Nick was a piano player and father of three, but he was also a dad figure to Blossom's friend Six, and later, to a stepchild. Wass also directed 18 episodes of 'Blossom.'
Now: Wass has moved behind the camera permanently, directing episodes of '2 Broke Girls' and 'Melissa and Joey' -- the latter reunites him with his 'Blossom' co-star Joey Lawrence. He has not appeared on screen since his days on 'Blossom. An in demand director, he's also helmed episodes of 'Last Man Standing,' 'Rules of Engagement' and 'Two and a Half Men.'
Michael Stoyanov -- Tony Russo
Then: The role of Blossom's eldest brother, Tony, was played by Michael Stoyanov. Tony was a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, who eventually met and fell in love with a woman named Rhonda when he relapsed and got drunk in Vegas. The two had a child together.
Now: Stoyanov appeared in 'The Dark Knight' as "Dopey," one of the Joker's clown mask-wearing cohorts from the opening bank heist sequence. He's also made appearances on 'CSI,' 'Justified' (above), 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' and 'Reno 911!'. He's written for 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' 'Mr. Show with Bob and David' and 'MADtv.'
Joey Lawrence -- Joey Russo
Then: Joey Lawrence played Joey Russo, Blossom's sort of dumb brother -- he was a jock, a ladies' man, and regularly delivers his exaggerated catchphrase, "Whoa!"
Now: Lawrence currently stars on the ABC Family sitcom 'Melissa and Joey' with fellow former '90s family sitcom star Melissa Joan Hart. Lawrence also co-hosted the ABC celebrity reality competition 'Splash,' in which celebs must train with professionals to perform high dives into a swimming pool.
Jenna von Oy -- Six Dorothy Lemeure
Then: Jenna von Oy played Six, Blossom's best friend and frequent guest of the Russo household. Like Blossom, Six's parents were divorced. Melissa Joan Hart was originally slated to play Six, but passed to take the lead in the Nickelodeon series 'Clarissa Explains It All' (she would later star with Joey Lawrence in 'Melissa and Joey').
Now: Von Oy appeared in the Lifetime original movie 'She Cried No,' with 'Full House' star Candace Cameron and 'Saved by the Bell' star Mark-Paul Gosselaar. She voiced the character Trinket on 'Pepper Ann,' and had a recurring role on 'The Parkers.' Since 'The Parkers' wrapped in 2004, she's only had four on-camera credits.
Finola Hughes -- Carol
Then: Finola Hughes played Carol, a British woman who married Nick Russo and became stepmother to Blossom, Tony, and Joey. She had a daughter of her own named Kennedy.
Now: Hughes appeared as herself on an episode of 'Melissa and Joey,' and starred in the film 'Like Crazy.' She was the host of the long-running makeover show 'How Do I Look?' and had recurring roles on 'All My Children' and 'Charmed.' In 2013, she returned for a stint on 'General Hospital,' which she starred in during the 1980s.
Melissa Manchester -- Maddy Russo
Then: Melissa Manchester, a singer whose adult contemporary music was very popular in the '80s and '90s, played Maddy, Blossom's mom. Maddy left her family to move to Paris and have her own life, but came back a few seasons later to try and repair the damage. She's best known for her song 'Don't Cry Out Loud.'
Now: Manchester is working on a new album. She briefly appeared in the 2011 indie film 'Dirty Girl,' in a non-speaking capacity as a piano player when the lead character sings 'Don't Cry Out Loud' at a talent show.
David Lascher -- Vinnie Bonitardi
Then: David Lascher played Blossom's on-again/off-again boyfriend, Vinnie. You could tell he was a tough guy because he wore a leather jacket and his name sounded like a 'Sopranos' character.
Now: Lascher appeared on the TV show version of 'Clueless' and in the film 'White Squall,' but he's perhaps known best for his role on 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch' as Josh, Sabrina's barista boyfriend in later seasons. 'Sabrina' also starred Melissa Joan Hart, giving 'Blossom' yet another connection to the actress. In recent years, he hasn't done much on-camera work, taking a handful of roles in films and TV-movies.
