It looks like Hollywood wants to be in the Casey Affleck business. A few weeks ago, news broke that Casey Affleck would write, direct, and star in Light of My Life, a survival thriller about a man and his young daughter who get lost during a hike in the woods. And that’s not the only Affleck project in the pipeline: yesterday, Variety announced that Affleck would also be writing and starring in Villain, a vigilante thriller with a supernatural twist.

According to the Variety article, Affleck will play a loving husband and father who lives in a city controlled by crime. When Affleck’s character is shot in the head during a home invasion and left for dead, he develops the ability to see into the past, present, and future of those around him. New superpower in hand, he embarks on a mission to find the men who murdered his family and punish any criminals he might encounter on the way. There’s only one catch: since he is capable of punishing people for crimes they have not yet committed, he is viewed by society at large as less of a hero and more of… well, a villain, I suppose. And thus a movie title was born.

If this sounds a bit like Minority Report meets The Dead Zone, that may be because the movie is pretty much the perfect synthesis of those two concepts. Guy who can see the dark sins of the seemingly normal people around him? Check. Crime-fighter who gets to preemptively decide whose future actions mean they get taken out? Check check. Much like his older brother Ben Affleck, Casey seems to be drawn towards telling moody genre stories for adults in his own work. Here’s hoping that the Afflecks are happy being the Hollywood power family for all your thriller needs.
