'Captain America' Chris Evans to Make His Directorial Debut With '1:30 Train'Damon Houx |
Between his gigs as Captain America in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron,' Chris Evans is finding time to squeeze in his directorial debut with '1:30 Train,' which will step the actor away from comic books for something a little more serious.
As Deadline is reporting, Evans will star and direct the film, which is based on a script by Ron Bass. Bass is something of a journeyman, having won the academy award for his script for 'Rain Man' but has been involved in films as different as 'The Joy Luck Club' and 'Entrapment.' The film is said to be similar to the 'Before Midnight' series in that it takes place in one night in New York where two characters meet and hash through their problems. In that way it also reminds of Vincente Minnelli's 1945 film 'The Clock,' and depending on what direction they take it, '1:30 Train' could have a similar conclusion.
It's also likely that it will not be anything like Evans' most famous works, as he revealed his tastes when he talked to Jeremy Smith over at Ain't It Cool back when he was promoting the first 'Captain America' movie and said this:
I like Ed Zwick movies. I like LAST SAMURAI, you know? I liked LEGENDS OF THE FALL. I like movies that have a sweeping, epic feel. I like things that carry over a long period of time. I think the theme that I like is human connection, like AMERICAN BEAUTY or something - things that can be a really beautiful, grand visual or concept. I think, at its root, I like the relationship between a brother and a sister, or a mother and a father… it’s simple stuff. Cameron Crowe is so good at taking these little moments that happen to people all of the time, and in their own personal lives these moments are huge. But if you try to explain them to someone else, it would mean nothing to them. Cameron can take those little moments, shoot the s--- out of it, put some music in it, and that little moment gets you. It just gets you. These are the moments that life is about, and if you can capture it, it’s f---ing magic.
Shooting for '1:30 Train' is scheduled to begin this fall.
