The untitled 25th film in the official James Bond franchise is supposed to open on November 8, 2019. Daniel Craig is definitely in it. But exactly who will direct the movie is still not known. And I don’t know how much you know about the making of movies, but generally, a director is a pretty important position on the crew. Like, you want to have at least one of them before you start shooting the thing. They tend to make most of the big decisions. So this is something that needs to be resolved. And quick.

Among the many names rumored for the gig is Christopher Nolan, who you may know as the biggest director in the world, and pretty much the only one who can get hugely expensive movies made that don’t involve men wearing capes or holding lightsabers. But recently on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs (via A.V. Club), Nolan said “categorically” that he won’t be the guy to make Bond 25. While insisting that he might make a Bond movie some day he also said:

I love the character, I love the films, I’ve been very inspired by the films as anyone who’s seen my films will find embarrassingly obvious. But you’d only take on a franchise like that if you could bring something completely new to it, if that were needed. And I think at the moment they’re doing fantastically well without me.

Sounds like Christopher Nolan didn’t see Spectre.

Anyway, there goes that good idea. So who else? We gotta find someone fast. So what’s Ryan Coogler up to these days? In addition to being a badass superhero movie, Black Panther has more than a little James Bond in the mix, between T’Challa’s incredible costumes and his awesome gadgets provided by his sister/Q-standin Shuri. He could make an amazing Bond movie. If he wants to, obviously.
