We're still years away from an 'Avengers' sequel (we've got at least four stand-alone Marvel movies to get through first), but the rumors are already flying about which characters will join the roster in part two and who will play them. The current nugget floating around these here internet parts is that Emily Blunt is being eyed for the role of Ms. Marvel.

For the non-nerds in the audience, Carol "Ms. Marvel" Danvers is an air force pilot who gains superpowers after an accident fuses her DNA with that of alien superhero Captain Marvel. She's one of the great female characters in the Marvel universe and is currently starring in her own solo comic series, where she has taken on the mantle of "Captain Marvel' after his death.

Before you get too excited, here's why you should take this news with a mountain of salt:

1. It comes from the Daily Mail, a source that has a track record of throwing any unsubstantiated rumor it can find/dream up into the wilds of the blogosphere without a care in the world. Never rely on a single thing that the Daily Mail writes. Ever.

2. If Marvel and Joss Whedon are planning to include Ms. Marvel in 'Avengers 2' (and since she's a longstanding member of the team in the comics, it would make perfect sense), they probably wouldn't be actively looking for actresses quite yet. The film is being prepped for a 2015 release, so unless they have plans to showcase the character in a series of cameos throughout other movies, there's no way anyone would commit to a film four years in advance.

Here's the full Daily Mail quote:

"Meanwhile, British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in a race for the most sought-after new female role in Hollywood. Emily, 29, below, star of The  Young Victoria, and Ruth, 30, from TV’s Luther, are both  hotly tipped to play superhero Ms Marvel in Avengers 2, the sequel to Avengers Assemble, one of the biggest box office hits of all time. The new movie is due to begin shooting next year. Whoever is chosen will star alongside Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth, who will reprise their comic-book hero roles."

Add more salt to the pile: 'Avengers 2' is not shooting next year, mainly because all of its cast will be too busy filming their Marvel solo movies.

Still, Ms. Marvel is a great choice for the Avengers roster and Blunt (who narrowly missed out on the role of Black Widow because of scheduling issues) would be a solid choice. What do you think?
