Just being handsome isn’t going to get Carey Mulligan to marry you. Sorry, dudes, but such is the case in the new trailer for Far From the Madding Crowd, based on the classic novel by Thomas Hardy. Mulligan stars in the upcoming drama as the elegantly named Bathsheba Everdene (take that, Katniss), who attracts a trio of pretty suitable suitors, but here’s the thing: she’s not interested in marrying any of them.

Fox Searchlight has released the new trailer for Far From the Madding Crowd, which comes from director Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt). The adaptation of Hardy’s classic follows Bathsheba, an independent young woman who receives a large inheritance and takes over a farm, where she promises to be an awesome boss.

While there, she attracts the affections of three very different men: sheep farmer Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), the handsome sergeant Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), and the older, wealthy bachelor William Boldwood (Michael Sheen). Bathsheba remains willful, maintaining that she won’t marry until she finds the man who can tame her, which will be rather difficult. Still, she captivates each of these men and indulges in their affections, but her commitment to any one of them is quite elusive.

The latest trailer promises an inspired and visually enchanting take on Hardy’s original material, and definitely indicates that you might need a box of tissues. Far From the Madding Crowd boasts quite the cast, as well, with Mulligan, Sheen, Schoenaerts, and Sturridge, as well as Juno Temple and Jessica Barden.

Far From the Madding Crowd hits theaters on May 1, the same day as Avengers: Age of Ultron — which, you know, might make for a delightfully nutty double feature.
