Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity' is one of our most anticipated films of the year. The movie stars Oscar winners George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as astronauts who face a cataclysmic failure during their mission. And the first trailer for the film is absolutely stunning.

What makes this trailer so special is that it looks like real-world space travel science-fiction. So much of what's come out of Hollywood over the last couple years has been in more of the 'Star Wars' vein (even the latest 'Star Trek' movies), where this looks to have a more hard science approach. And with Cuaron (who also directed 'Children of Man') at the helm, this is a must see.

Here's the film's synopsis:

Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

And here's the film's trailer. 'Gravity' opens October 4.
