Here’s something you don’t see every day.

That astounding image comes from the funeral of one Renato Garcia, a Puerto Rican resident who was so fond of dressing as the DC Comics superhero Green Lantern that his relatives embalmed him, put him in the costume, and propped him up at his wake. Even in death, no evil shall escape his sight.

According to the Daily News, Garcia “[wore] the costume for weeks after he found it in a bag of donated clothes.” They don’t explain where he found the Batman utility belt he’s wearing over the Green Lantern costume, but it’s a nice touch anyway.

This is so fantastic it’s making us rethink all our own plans for the afterlife. The next time you say you’ll be a comic-book fan until the day you die, realize that at least one man has already taken that vow way, way farther. For more photos of this unique event, head over to the Daily News.
