When Tom Cruise left Guy Ritchie's 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' for 'Mission: Impossible 5,' it looked like it could possibly kill the project. But now Warner Brothers wants their new Superman Henry Cavill, the star of this summer's 'Man of Steel,' to take the role.

This news broke at a number of sources -- like The Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap -- which suggests it is going to happen. Cavill (who's British) would play American spy Napoleon Solo against Armie Hammer (who's American), who's signed on to play Russian agent Illya Kuryakin. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is also in talks for the film, and with both the leads doing accents it seems likely that she would be playing a German, just because.

'Man of Steel' is poised to be one of the summer's biggest movies, so it's smart of Warner Brothers to take the heat from that film and try to turn Cavill into an A-list movie star. It's what Paramount is belatedly doing with Chris Pine in their 'Jack Ryan' reboot, and it makes sense to turn Cavill into more than just the guy who plays Superman. We're guessing this will be confirmed shortly as 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' plans to shoot later this year.
