If you’re one of those people who thinks that this past summer proved that movies are dead, may I cheerfully offer you Hunt for the Wilderpeople as Exhibit A in Hollywood’s defense? Not only did Taika Waititi give us one of the year’s best films in his hilarious and moving coming-of-age film, he also reminded audiences that Sam Neill is the kindly uncle we all wish we had in real life. Movies like this are one of the big reasons that Marvel was so quick to snap Waititi up for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok movie… and why the current state of cinema is as good as it’s ever been.

And in advance of the film’s DVD release next week, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (via ComingSoon.net) has released the first ten minutes of the movie online for your viewing pleasure. In the case of Hunt for the Wilderpeople, the first ten minutes serve as a great introduction to Julian Denniso as the incredibly well-meaning lead character Ricky Baker and the gruff-but-lovable Hec played by Sam Neill.

Once you’ve had a chance to watch the clip  —  or even the full movie  —  be sure to read our interview with Sam Neill, where the actor shared a handful of stories from a long career in Hollywood, including begging Clint Eastwood to cast him in a western and why he named his own wine label after a quote from Jurassic Park (we also tried to get him to wax poetic on his role in Snow White: A Tale of Terror, a movie he apparently never actually watched!).

Hunt for the Wilderpeople will hit DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, September 27.
