It looks like Jake Kasdan will be reuniting with his fellow 'Freaks and Geeks' alum Jason Segel for the film 'Sex Tape.' The Hollywood Reporter says that Kasdan is "in negotiations"* to direct with Segel attached to star. Reese Witherspoon was at one time interested in co-starring but now they are looking for a new female lead and may reunite Segel with one of his former co-stars...

The premise of the film is that a married couple with kids decides to spice up their love life and make a sex tape, only for it to go missing the next day. (With a premise like that the trailer seems to write itself.) Segel's 'Bad Teacher' co-star Cameron Diaz is reportedly being mentioned as a potential casting choice for the other half of the married couple. Nicholas Stoller - who's worked with Segel on 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' 'The Muppets,' and 'Five Year Engagement' - was supposedly close to directing but is now out of the running.

Kasdan's 'Bad Teacher' grossed a hundred million at the box office, which is the first time Kasdan's had a big theatrical success. His previous films 'Zero Effect,' 'Orange County,' 'The TV Set,' and 'Walk Hard' are best described as cult favorites, in that all pretty much died at the box office ('Orange County' did the best of that bunch). This then would be his directorial victory lap.

*What I love about reports like this from places like THR and how they're picked up, is that it suggests that Kasdan will be directing the project yet also "in negotiations." The latter is often code for making a deal for money and doesn't suggest that he's a lock, even though they say he's in.
