There they are: the live-action version of the title band from the upcoming movie of Jem and the HologramsFrom left to right that’s Hayley Kiyoko as Aja, Aubrey Peeples as Jem, and Stephanie Scott as Kimber. (What a diss to Shana!) Not pictured: Jem’s earrings, so at this point we cannot confirm that Jem’s holographic computer (and sweet fashion accessory) Synergy will be a part of the film (and if it’s not, I am not interested). Here’s the film’s official plot synopsis:

As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden.  In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

Those instruments are definitely ’80s-tastic in a way that pays homage to the original cartoon show. And the choice of director, Jon M. Chu (assorted Step Up movies and G.I. Joe: Step Up 2 Retaliation), seems like an appropriate one. Jem and the Holograms opens in theaters on October 23, 2015. According to sources close to the production, it contains excitement and possibly also adventure.
