Alex Garland’s follow-up to Ex Machina just keeps getting better and better with each new casting addition. The female-centric cast of Annihilation already includes Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson, all on board for Garland’s next sci-fi project. And it appears they may have some very cool new company, as The Hateful Eight star Jennifer Jason Leigh is in talks to join them.

According to The Wrap, Leigh is in talks to join Portman (who recently appeared in a western of her own with Jane Got a Gun), Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Thompson (Creed) in Annihilation, which Garland is directing from a script he wrote based on Jeff VanderMeer’s novel of the same name. The story follows a quartet of women sent out on an expedition to Area X, a remote location that was reclaimed by nature — and has led to the horrific deaths of all involved in the 11 previous expeditions.

Leigh has long been one of our most undervalued actresses, but thanks to her casting in Quentin Tarantino’s wintery western and her impeccable voice work in Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa, she’s finally getting the recognition she has long-deserved.

Leigh appears next in Amityville: The Awakening, is set to star opposite Woody Harrelson in LBJ, and has joined the ensemble cast of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks revival.
