Everyone knows that The Jungle Book, based on the classic Rudyard Kipling stories, is about a little boy living alone in the jungle with a bunch of animals. But did you know that Jon Favreau, director of this year’s live-action version of The Jungle Book, wanted his film to reflect man’s changing attitude toward nature? In Kipling’s time, Favreau said in an interview, “nature was something to be overcome. Now, nature is something to be protected.” That’s just one of the facts featured in the last episode of You Think You Know Movies!

In order for Neel Sethi, who played Mowgli, to have something to act against in a mostly CGI and blue-screen world, the Jim Henson Creature Shop created puppets of many of the Jungle Book animals that could interact with the actor. None of those puppets, though, wound up in the finished film. Additionally, some actors’ performances were motion captured and used to animate their animal counterparts, and several of the CGI animals were designed to resemble the human cast, including King Louie, whose giant face incorporated elements of Christopher Walken’s (normal-sized) face.
