A LEGO 'Back to the Future' playset seems like a no-brainer, and yet it's never happened. But thanks to the creativity of M. Togami and the support of over 10,000 fans, that set could very soon be a reality that you can purchase for yourself.

LEGO's Cuusoo project is like a Kickstarter for designers with awesome ideas for LEGO toys (see this 'Shaun of the Dead' LEGO proposal). Once a project receives 10,000 supporters, that dream becomes tangible and, if approved, the designer receives royalties on their sold product.

M. Togami had a special vision for a 'Back to the Future' set which would include three different iterations of the famed DeLorean, Doc Brown, and Marty (and his hover board!), and naturally that vision proved wildly popular.

With over 10,000 supporters as of yesterday, the 'Back to the Future' set will soon go under the official LEGO review. Says LEGO of the process:

"A 'LEGO Jury' composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We'll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product, including playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand."

Also important is securing the licence to 'Back to the Future' from Universal.

M. Togami says that Michael J. Fox is his personal hero, and because of that he'll be donating some of the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
