After delivering the big studio picture 'The Green Hornet,' it seems that Michel Gondry -- Academy Award winner for 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' -- wanted to regroup. He made the low budget indie 'The We and I,' which looks to be getting a limited release stateside on March 8, and has now delivered 'Mood Indigo,' which opens in France in April. Now there's a trailer for his latest.

And it has moments that are very Gondry-esque, from the trumpeter in the model building, to the walking through water sequence, to the flying car. Yep, there's a flying car. Gondry was able to find a balance for his quirkiness best with 'Sunshine,' where his sense of playfulness worked perfectly against Charlie Kauffman's script. Since then everything has been interesting, but not as great. We're hoping this time he knocks it out of the park. That said, it costars Audrey Tautou (best known as 'Amelie'), so perhaps their working together with create a twee singularity.

Here's the film's synopsis:

From the director of ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND comes a magical love story that stood the test of time.  Adapted from Boris Vian’s cult international bestseller.

In a world where you can travel around on a pink cloud or literally be swept off an ice-skating rink into a hole, Colin, a wealthy young man and inventor of the cocktail-mixing piano, wants to fall in love.  With the help of his cook Nicolas and best friend Chick, he meets Chloe, the incarnation of a Duke Ellington tune.  But soon after their wedding, Chloe falls ill.  She has a water lily growing in her chest.  Ruined by medical expenses, Colin resorts to increasingly desperate methods to save his beloved’s life…

And here's that trailer. If the film's good to great, perhaps it will be released in the fall for Oscar consideration.
