See the Cast of 'Office Space' Then and NowBritt Hayes |
In 1999, Mike Judge, creator of MTV's 'Beavis and Butt-Head,' released the little indie workplace comedy 'Office Space,' about a trio of coworkers who decide to rebel against their annoying boss and the horrible company they work for. Hard to believe the cult classic is 14 years old this year, so we decided to take a look back at the cast and see if they've moved on to better jobs -- so to speak -- since then.
Ron Livingston, Peter Gibbons
Then: 'Swingers' star Ron Livingston wasn't very well known when he was cast in the lead role as Peter Gibbons, the film's protagonist who leads his friends to try and rip off the office where they work.
Now: Livingston has appeared on the HBO shows 'Sex and the City' and 'Band of Brothers,' and can be seen in the films 'The Conjuring,' 'Drinking Buddies' and 'Touchy Feely.' He returns to HBO this fall for the new season of 'Boardwalk Empire.' Livingston is married to actress Rosemarie DeWitt.
Jennifer Aniston, Joanna
Then: Jennifer Aniston had become a household name by the time she signed on for 'Office Space,' thanks to her starring role on the sitcom 'Friends.' In the film she plays Peter's love interest, Joanna.
Now: Aniston has a successful film career, starring in movies like 'Horrible Bosses' and 'Wanderlust,' and can be seen next in the comedy 'We're the Millers' with Jason Sudeikis. She's engaged to actor and screenwriter Justin Theroux, her co-star from 'Wanderlust.'
David Herman, Michael Bolton
Then: David Herman played Michael Bolton, one of Peter's friends and tortured coworkers. At the time, Herman had been one of the original nine cast members of 'MADtv,' and had previously worked with Mike Judge on 'Beavis and Butt-Head.'
Now: Herman reunited with Mike Judge for his film 'Idiocracy' and his animated series 'King of the Hill.' He's also lent his voice talents to 'Futurama,' 'American Dad' and 'Bob's Burgers.'
Ajay Naidu, Samir Nagheenanajar
Then: Ajay Naidu, star of 'SubUrbia,' played Samir, Peter's coworker with the impossible-to-pronounce last name.
Now: Naidu has appeared in films such as 'Requiem for a Dream' and 'Bad Santa,' and on shows like HBO's 'The Sopranos' and 'Bored to Death.' In addition to screen acting, Naidu has a very successful theatre career.
Diedrich Bader, Lawrence
Then: The comedic actor and star of 'The Drew Carey Show' played Peter's neighbor, Lawrence, who gives some pretty questionable advice.
Now: Bader does a ton of voice acting these days, lending his talents to everything from Mike Judge's 'King of the Hill' to kid-friendly fare like 'Superman: Unbound,' 'Ben 10' and 'Batman: The Brave and the Bold.'
Stephen Root, Milton Waddams
Then: Comedian Artie Lange read for the role of Milton Waddams, the weird office worker who is obsessed with his red Swingline stapler and is always getting shoved around by his coworkers. The part went to Stephen Root, a diverse actor known for his role on 'NewsRadio.'
Now: Root has continued to prove himself to be one of the most diverse actors working today, appearing on shows like 'True Blood' and 'Boardwalk Empire,' and in recent films 'The Company You Keep' and 'The Lone Ranger.' He reunited with 'Office Space' co-star Diedrich Bader on the animated film 'Superman: Unbound,' and provided the voices of Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland on Mike Judge's 'King of the Hill.'
Gary Cole, Bill Lumbergh
Then: Gary Cole is another diverse actor, who was known previously for his roles in 'The Brady Bunch Movie' (and its sequel) and the television series 'American Gothic.' In 'Office Space,' Cole played Peter's grating boss, Bill Lumbergh.
Now: Cole has appeared on a ton of shows, including 'True Blood,' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'Suits.' He joined the cast of the HBO comedy series 'Veep' in season 2.
Richard Riehle, Tom Smykowski
Then: Richard Riehle had previously appeared in the films 'Fried Green Tomatoes' and 'Free Willy.' In 'Office Space,' he plays the cowardly Tom Smykowski.
Now: Riehle appeared in the recent films 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' and 'Bridesmaids.'
John C. McGinely, Bob Slydell
Then: 'Platoon' and 'Point Break' star John C. McGinley played Bob Slydell, one of two consultants named Bob who come in to lay employees off at Peter's workplace.
Now: McGinley is well known for playing the cranky Dr. Cox on the long-running sitcom 'Scrubs,' and recently appeared in the films 'Alex Cross' and '42.' In his downtime, McGinley owns stake in a New York bistro with Willem Dafoe, and plays golf with John Cusack.
