It wouldn’t be a Despicable Me movie without an original Pharrell Williams song, now would it? “Happy” topped the charts back in 2013 ahead of Despicable Me 2’s release, won an Oscar and a Grammy, and remains a staple of sorority recruitment videos and soft drink commercials to this day. For Universal’s follow-up, the singer has composed a slightly more sedate number, titled “There’s Something Special,” the music video for which was released today. There’s something going on in this video, all right, but I dunno if I’d say it’s special.

This song follows in a long tradition of Despicable movies utilizing the kind of songs that only serve to provide an odd disconnect for their audience. The first movie had a decidedly darker original number by Pharrell. The trailer for this one uses an Eminem track. This music video intercuts footage from Despicable Me 3 — which sees lovable hunchbacked Gru tempted out of a life of do-goodery by his cooler, evil-er brother — with swirling, animated yellow Minions pirouetting amongst the clouds around Pharrell’s many disembodied heads, all culminating in a kaleidoscopic pastel-toned nightmare of falsetto warbling and tiny lemon-hued creatures plucking cellos.

The team who brought you Despicable Me and the biggest animated hits of 2013 and 2015, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, returns to continue the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions. Despicable Me 3 is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, co-directed by Eric Guillon, and written by Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio.

It’s cold and dark, and I want my mom.

Despicable Me 3 hits theaters June 30, 2017.
