It seems crazy that Netflix wouldn’t renew one of its best shows, but stranger things (sorry) have happened. While it may not be totally surprising to learn that Dear White People has been picked up for a third season, it’s still reason to celebrate — and in a world where we increasingly have few reasons to do so, this is pretty excellent news.

The announcement was made via an official video featuring series narrator Giancarlo Esposito delivering a transmission from “the Order of X”:

As revealed in Season 2 of Justin Simien’s hit series (based on his film of the same name), the Order of X is a secret society at Winchester University. In the Season 2 finale, Esposito — who has narrated every episode — comes out of the shadows to confirm the society’s existence in an awesome fourth wall-breaking moment.

Much of Dear White People’s second season dealt with social media and how information is shared — and distorted — online. The brief video announcement continues running with that theme, though it’s unclear exactly how the Order of X will factor into the third season. While Netflix has yet to confirm a release date, it’s safe to assume we’ll be catching up with Sam & Co. sometime next year.
