Robert Downey Jr. Reunites with 'Iron Man' Director Jon Favreau for 'Chef'Britt Hayes |
Deadline reports that Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to star in 'Chef,' the new comedy from 'Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2' director and co-star Jon Favreau. Favreau wrote and is directing the project, which follows a chef who loses his job and starts a food truck to reclaim his fame and respect. If you haven't been outside lately, food trucks are a big deal.
The film also stars Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, and Bobby Cannavale and begins production this summer. Though Favreau did co-star in 'Iron Man 3,' he didn't return to script or direct the project, so for those itching to see Favreau and RDJ working together again, 'Chef' should get you pretty stoked.
Robert Downey Jr.'s contract is currently up on the 'Iron Man' films, and the actor -- along with his 'Avengers' co-stars -- have been embroiled in contract negotiations over 'The Avengers 2.' It's unclear whether he'll return for 'Iron Man 4,' though Marvel exec Kevin Feige says it doesn't matter -- the franchise will live on with or without Robert Downey Jr., just as the Batman, Spider-Man, and James Bond films have all gone on to replace their lead stars and continued to succeed.
In the meantime, it doesn't seem that Downey Jr. is having much trouble lining up projects outside of the Marvel movie universe.
