'The Smurfs 2' Trailer: We're SmurfedDamon Houx |
Last year, 'The Smurfs' made more money than you'd ever think: $142 Million domestic and $564 Million worldwide. So it's no surprise it's spawned a sequel, which will be hitting theaters in 2013. Great. Now there's a trailer for 'The Smurfs 2.'
And the trailer suggests that everyone is back, only this time Gargamel (Hank Azaria) has done the unthinkable, he's created an off-brand version of the Smurfs that look similar but have no color and are called Naughties. With the level of artistic integrity these films have, there's no way that new characters (that can easily be turned into toys) have been introduced solely for the purpose of having new things to sell. No way.
The film was directed by Raja Gosnell, who started by working on Robert Altman movies until he graduated to editing films for Chris Columbus only to move on to directing films like 'Big Mama's House' and ' Beverly Hills Chihuahua.' But someone has to direct these films, so why not Gosnell?
Here's the film's synopsis:
In this sequel to the hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants — and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs — Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus – or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?
