Taking classic toys, cartoons, and games and turning them into modern movie properties is all the rage -- the Transformers got their own action franchise, 'The LEGO Movie' was a huge hit, 'Ouija' became a horror film aimed at teens, and a 'Paddington' film is on the way. There will even soon be films based on Tetris and Minecraft. But here's a different kind of potential movie star for you, a legitimate tried and true classic: Sock Monkey. Based on the upcoming storybook installment 'Sock Monkey: Into the Deep Woods' from comics writer Tony Millionaire, animator Matt Danner has delivered a concept teaser to introduce the world to the cinematic potential of Uncle Gabby.

Via Deadline, Danner wrote the script for the feature and produced the above preview teaser using a hybrid of CG and live-action to show off the concept for a potential film featuring Uncle Gabby the sock monkey. The teaser itself is startlingly beautiful and muted, utilizing "The Aquarium" from 'The Carnival of the Animals' musical suite -- if that haunting piece of music sounds vaguely familiar to you, that's because it was famously used in the teaser for David Fincher's 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.'

Danner's proposed film would follow Uncle Gabby and his friends on an adventure that spans land and sea as they search for their human friend Ann-Louise, whom they fear has been kidnapped by a monster. Danner originally wrote the project as a film, but Millionaire's publishers were eager to put the concept in print first -- it will hit the shelves on November 16.
