The Sony hacking scandal has proven to be a massive headache for a company that’s already been having a rough few years. But now, this increasingly weird story has taken an even darker turn: the hackers are threatening to launch terrorist attacks against theaters showing ‘The Interview’ this Christmas.

Very little of what was revealed by the Sony hacks was worthy of publication to begin with, but now every private email and piece of personal correspondence that was copied and pasted online feels even ickier. The people who provided the internet with all of this information (which includes the personal details of countless employees) are no longer just hackers; they’re violent terrorists, threatening to kill innocent people. Over a movie. A goofy Seth Rogen comedy. For context, here’s the message the hackers released today (via Variety):

Warning

We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places “The Interview” be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to.
Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made.
The world will be full of fear.
Remember the 11th of September 2001.
We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time.
(If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.)
Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
All the world will denounce the SONY.

Just remember that the people who supplied you with that “hilarious” email exchange between Sony bigwigs are now invoking 9/11 and trying to scare you into staying away from movie theaters. These criminals are trying to scare you, your family, and your friends into hiding in your homes.

The truth is that North Korea and Kim Jong-un have a history of having more bark than bite when it comes to doing, well, just about anything. This is a starving third world nation in desperate need of foreign aid and assistance that it will never ask for because it’s run by a maniac so crazy that he’s seemingly devoting much of his time to threatening people who want to go see a James Franco movie. It’s living satire.

We previously wrote about how this whole situation makes us want to see ‘The Interview’ even more and this holds true. There is nothing more classically American than giving a big middle finger to the guy who tells you not to do something.

The film opens on December 25, 2014. You know what to do.
