'Star Trek Into Darkness' may have lost its director - J.J. Abrams - to the 'Star Wars' universe, but before he treks off into the darkness of the Empire, Abrams still has a few 'Star Trek' tricks up his sleeves. With all the 'Star Wars' hubbub over the past few days, let's not forget about 'Star Trek Into Darkness' and to help get you (even more) excited, we've got five new 'Star Trek Into Darkness' pics plus some new details about the upcoming sequel.

'Star Trek Into Darkness' is on the cover of the next issue of Entertainment Weekly and to promote the issue, we've got five new pics from the movie plus some details on the cover story inside the magazine.

OK, so we don't learn exactly who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in the film (yes, we've heard the party line that he's "John Harrison" but no, we're not buying that) but writer Alex Kurtzman does describe him in the article as a "member of Starfleet who turns on Starfleet" and is later described as a terrorist who launches attacks on San Francisco and London (as glimpsed in the trailer).

Also interesting is that the cast of the film helped dictate the tone of the film. Says Abrams, "I would say all of the actors, uh, have more opinions this time..." Not the least of which was Zoe Saldana who said she had one message she continually stressed to the creative team: "I told them to make sure that Uhura kicks more ass. And she does!"

Below, check out the five new 'Star Trek Into Darkness' pics (with more promised in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly). 'Star Trek Into Darkness' hits theaters on May 17.
