When we saw the initial teaser for Disney's 'Into the Woods' movie, the thing that was missing from our first peek at the upcoming musical was the actual, you know, musical part. But thanks to this new featurette on the film, we can hear bits and pieces of the songs from the adaptation of the classic musical, from the mouths of stars like Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick.
Following this morning's first look at Johnny Depp's Big Bad Wolf and his Big Dumb Hat from the upcoming musical film 'Into the Woods,' Entertainment Weekly has released even more official photos -- this time featuring more of Anna Kendrick's Cinderella and Chris Pine's Prince Charming, and less Big Bad Wolf. Sorry, silly hat fans.
'Into the Woods' isn't just Disney's big Christmas Day release this year and it isn't just one of the more impressive ensembles assembled for a fantasy film. It's the long-awaited big-screen version of Stephen Sondheim's beloved musical of the same name ... which makes it all the more baffling that the first 'Into the Woods' trailer does everything in its power to hide the fact that this movie is a musical. There is not a single sung word in all 107 seconds.
Writer and director Joe Swanberg reunites with his 'Drinking Buddies' star Anna Kendrick for 'Happy Christmas,' an intimate indie dramedy in which Kendrick stars as a willfully regressive 27 year-old who moves in with her older brother and his wife, only to throw their world into (minor) upheaval. A charming counterpoint to popular man-child narratives, Swanberg's latest asks not for sympathy for its main character, but merely identification and a little empathy.
However many years you've followed 'SNL,' or even '30 Rock,' fans don't often get the chance to go behind the scenes of their favorite sketch comedy series to see how it all comes together on stage. Now we can, with a condensed time-lapse of the entire Anna Kendrick-Pharrell installment, from setup to curtain call in Studio 8H!
This past weekend's 'SNL' installment with Anna Kendrick and musical guest Pharrell proved to be one of the stronger episodes of the season to date, and while we wait for this coming weekend to return 'Neighbors' star Seth Rogen to the stage, Kendrick had a bit more left in the tank. Watch the secret, dark history to '90s Nickelodeon series "ZAP!," in the latest 'SNL' deleted scene!
Anna Kendrick is the perfect type of ‘SNL’ host – to the point that, as a performer, she could easily be a member of the cast. (I have no idea what her sketch writing ability is like.) Kendrick blends in with the rest of the cast so easily, it allows the show to be about the sketches and not about the host. Not to mention, she’s quite talented, which allows for a lot of singing and dancing – and there was a lot of singing and dancing last night (and a lot of Disney references). This was by far the most consistent show of the season, which makes it the best show of the season (even though I'm hesitant to use the word "best"). So much, in fact, that I wish I could set today’s Scorecard to the music of ‘Treasure Planet.’
Sometimes, 'SNL' creates a sketch that aims for a very specific demographic and just goes all-out in its attempt to win over that specific audience. We can argue as to whether or not this 'The Little Mermaid' sketch starring guest host Anna Kendrick is successful, but it's the kind of thing that was certainly designed to appeal to viewers who grew up with Disney, have a thing for 'Pitch Perfect,' and can recognize lousy modern pop songs.
There was no way 'SNL' was going to get 'Pitch Perfect' star Anna Kendrick to host without giving her a big musical number, and the show got it over and done with early on. In her opening monologue, Kendrick talked about her musical theater roots and how good it felt to be on a New York Stage of any kind before breaking into a fantastic parody of "Bonjour" from Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast.'
After this past weekend's latest 'SNL' installment with return host Louis C.K. gave a noticeable bump in quality (which you can see with our new 'SNL' Scorecard!), 'Pitch Perfect' star Anna Kendrick will kick off the first installments of April 2014 with musical guest Pharrell. Does Anna prove as adorable and internet-favorite as ever in the first promos? Find out for yourself!
