by Britt Hayes March 10, 2015 @ 5:15 PM
Even though the first Tron film didn’t perform very well at the box office, and even though Tron: Legacy was mostly derided by critics and fans alike and pretty much flopped financially, Disney is moving forward with plans for Tron 3. It’s certainly the most eyebrow-raising news of the week, as it basically comes out of nowhere—but it’s happening, and it’s shooting this fall in Vancouver.

‘Gran Turismo’ Movie Revs Up With ‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joseph Kosinski

by Britt Hayes March 2, 2015 @ 7:19 PM
A movie based on the hit PlayStation video game Gran Turismo has been in the works for a while now, largely thanks to the success of the Fast and Furious franchise. You may be skeptical about the project, given that underwhelming adaptation of Need for Speed (you’re welcome for the reminder that a Need for Speed movie totally happened), and you still might be a little skeptical when you find out that the director of Tron: Legacy is in talks to direct Gran Turismo.

We'll profess to not knowing a whole lot about 'Destiny' - the new console game from Activision and developer Bungie ('Halo') - but after watching this new launch trailer directed by Joseph Kosinski ('Oblivion' and 'Tron: Legacy'), our interest level is definitely raised. At the very least, we'd watch this movie.

There are few shows as beloved and important to fans of genre cinema as Rod Serling's 'The Twilight Zone,' which ran from 1959 to 1964 and set a gold standard for science-fiction, horror and fantasy on television. The show's legacy is so strong that it's survived several TV reboots and a mediocre 1983 film adaptation ... but can it survive 'Tron Legacy' and 'Oblivion' director Joseph Kosinski, who is in negotiations to take the series to the big screen again?

'Oblivion' Review

by Todd Gilchrist April 19, 2013 @ 5:43 AM
'Oblivion' is best described as opportunity, squandered. Its landscape – conceptual and physical – feels remarkably unique and bursting with possibilities, but the exploration of both lacks originality, and energy. Joe Kosinski’s follow-up to 'TRON: Legacy' is, like its predecessor, a gorgeously mounted, inventive world-building endeavor, but it’s also equally bloodless -- ponderous without being thoughtful, ambitious without being inspired, much less inspiring. The chronicle of a battle for the fate of humankind that possesses little humanity of its own, 'Oblivion' is an overstuffed compendium of familiar genre tropes rendered with ornamental beauty but not much emotional depth.

How the World of 'Oblivion' is Unlike the Typical Sci-Fi Movie

by ScreenCrush Staff April 11, 2013 @ 12:00 PM
Joseph Kosinski's 'Oblivion' is looking to kick off the summer season early with its mid-April launch, as the film is loaded with the sort of sci-fi spectacle that's normally reserved for the hottest and coldest months of the year. Tom Cruise stars in the film, but one of the main attractions is the rugged beauty post-apocalyptic Earth setting. It's something you almost never see in a sci-fi film.
