After careful consideration, and much consultation with my family and our spiritual advisor, I have decided to cancel my upcoming trip to Jurassic World. Sure, it looks great, and I’ve heard the breakfast buffet is a terrific value. But I just have this weird feeling that if I went there I would be eaten by a dinosaur. Don’t ask me why; just a hunch.
It’s not just the terrifying Indominus Rex that Chris Pratt and his co-stars will have to look out for in Jurassic World—the park is also cooking up some pretty intimidating genetically-modified dinosaurs in its onsite lab. The latest piece of viral marketing for Jurassic World takes you inside the Hammond Creation Lab, so named for Jurassic Park mastermind John Hammond. In addition, the film’s interactive site has revealed seven new dinosaurs that will terrorize theme park visitors this summer.
If you’ve been to the movie theater in the last couple years — and you like to show up early — then you’ve surely noticed one of the most pervasive and tired trends in modern Hollywood: The use of depressing cover versions of famous songs in movie trailers. It started with one brilliantly innovative coming attraction, but quickly became something of an industry standard; nearly every studio tentpole’s first teaser (and sometimes the full trailer that follows) is scored by some kind of gloomy cover of a tune everyone knows. To prove just how played out this gimmick is, ScreenCrush assembled a list of fifteen examples from the last five years. Watch ’em and weep (because these trailers are so very sad):
It’s not often that parody trailers are that great, but this one for Jurassic World is exceptional — mostly because it’s completely bizarre and totally nuts. Ever wondered what a dinosaur would look like with Jeff Goldblum’s head? Did you think Chris Pratt on a motorcycle flanked by trained raptors wasn’t wild enough? This parody trailer definitely upgrades Jurassic World with some pretty awesome embellishments and edits.
In the Jurassic World trailer, careful editing ensured that we only catch tiny glimpses of the Indominus Rex, the genetically modified dinosaur cooked up by scientists to increase attendance to their theme park. But if you were expecting our first really good look at this guy to come from another trailer, you were wrong. This is the year 2015. These kinds of things get revealed in toy form these days.
We don’t know much about some of the supporting characters in ‘Jurassic World,’ like Vincent D’Onofrio’s character, for instance. A new viral video from the film’s official site for its private security firm sheds a little light on the subject, introducing us to D’Onofrio’s character and just what it is that this security firm does. If that’s not enough ‘Jurassic World’ news for you, Hasbro has unveiled new photos of the official toys for the movie, which seem to indicate the possibility of a second hybrid dinosaur. Oh my!
If you were a little disappointed by the first ‘Jurassic World’ trailer, perhaps the new one that aired during this year’s Super Bowl was more to your liking. It definitely featured more raptor action and a few more peeks at the Indominus Rex, but if you’re still itching for more from our return to the deadly theme park attraction, the official ‘Jurassic World’ website has opened their “Park Cam” section, giving viewers a special look inside the park…from a safe distance, obviously.
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events of the year across the world. So, what better way to celebrate the enormity of the Super Bowl than with giant dinosaurs. That's where ‘Jurassic World’ comes in. This new Super Bowl trailer takes the excitement and curiosity of the original trailer—Chris Pratt and his raptor buddies?—and ramps it up with this new ad.
‘Jurassic World’ can’t just be all raptors and T-rexs. As much as we love those guys, we’ve seen them before in the three previous ‘Jurassic Park’ movies. We need a new dino villain. Enter: Indominus Rex. Previously referred to as “Diabolus Rex”, this new dinosaur is rumored to be a hybrid creation with the sole design to increase the flagging attendance at the Jurassic World theme park. This, as you might expect, goes horribly wrong. Up until now, all we know about Indominus is what was hinted at in the first teaser, and that he’s one bad mother. But, now, thanks to the official ‘Jurassic World’ web site, we know a little bit more about this monster.
