Where the first 'Maleficent' poster featured a close-up of Angelina Jolie rockin' her devilish new look (horns and all), the latest one-sheet released by Walt Disney Pictures reveals ... sadly, nothing new except for a wider shot of the celeb in costume. Still, the A-lister pierces directly into our souls.
Those who tuned into Sunday night's Grammy Awards were in for a special treat: Disney debuted a new 90-second 'Maleficent' trailer, featuring Lana Del Rey performing a haunting cover of the original animated classic's signature "Once Upon a Dream" tune. Coupled with some epic new footage, the end result was rather breathtaking and just the sort of thing to get us properly excited for the upcoming film, starring Angelina Jolie as the classic Disney villain.
Last night the Disney channel debuted a new sneak peek of their upcoming villain origin film 'Maleficent' during the premiere of the TV movie 'Cloud 9.' We're not entire sure what the difference is between a "sneak peek" and a trailer, but we do love the charming intro, featuring footage from the original animated 'Sleeping Beauty' film, which transitions beautifully into the live-action world of 'Maleficent' and Angelina Jolie's villainess.
Disney's 'Maleficent,' a retelling of 'Sleepy Beauty' told from the perspective of the villainous witch, was bumped up from its July 2, 2014 release slot and to May 30 of the same year. First, however, the film has to head back for reshoots, which is a common occurrence with productions. But what isn't is the fact that John Lee Hancock, who helmed the studio's 'Saving Mr. Banks,' will be overseeing the reshoots by original director Robert Stromberg.
During the D23 Expo's second day of movie presentations in the Anaheim Convention Center in California, Sean Bailey, Walt Disney Studios' president of production, came out to the stage to present the upcoming live-action offerings, including the first footage of Angelina Jolie as the evil witch in 'Maleficent.'
It's 'Snow White and the Hunstman' vs. 'Mirror, Mirror' all over again, except this time the competition is centered around that narcoleptic princess with an affinity for pricking herself with spinning wheel needles.
While Disney is in the process of filming their version of the 'Sleeping Beauty' story with Angelina Jolie as the evil queen in 'Maleficent,' Neal Moritz, the producer behind '21 Jump Street,' is developing his own modern retelling of the classic fairy tale.
