Well, this is quite the career rebound. Matthew McConaughey, after a couple of years of solid character work -- and a lot of stolen scenes -- is now back in the big leagues as it appears Christopher Nolan wants him to be the lead in his next film 'Interstellar.' Not bad for an almost wash-out, yeah?
David O. Russell's 'Silver Linings Playbook' was the big winner at this year's Independent Spirit Awards, taking home four awards including Best Feature. Of course, the debate asking why a mainstream, star-studded box office smash beat out the actual indie fare at the Independent Spirit Awards, but that's a conversation for another time. Check out the rest of winners below!
It's like 'Stand By Me' for a new generation.
This is Matthew McConaughey. We know, right? McConaughey - frequently seen looking quite buff running on the beach - lost 40 pounds to play a man suffering from AIDS for the upcoming indie film 'The Dallas Buyer's Club' and looks almost unrecognizable while filming a scene on the New Orleans set.
It's been an alright-alright-alright year for Matthew McConaughey, who's starred in Steven Soderbergh's 'Magic Mike,' Richard Linklater's 'Bernie,' and can currently be seen in William Friedkin's 'Killer Joe.' And now the actor will take a stroll on down to Wall Street for Martin Scorsese in 'The Wolf of Wall Street.'
No one will ever accuse director William Friedkin ('The Exorcist') of mellowing with age. His newest film, 'Killer Joe,' is an unrepentant celebration of sleaze that is downright quaint in its blithe attitude toward morals, purpose or restraint. It is, depending on your world view, a breath of fresh air or a harbinger of our eroded sense of ethical responsibility.
I'll go with the former.
It almost sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Two of America's most charming Southern-flavored actors doing a buddy-detective story on cable? Perhaps an oversimplification, but for now it seems like HBO has won the bidding war to the high-profile new drama 'True Detective,' written by 'The Killing's own Nic Pizzolato.
