If the goal for 'Need For Speed' was to replicate the success of the 'Fast and Furious' films, then the film's opening weekend is not promising. Opening in third place, the video game adaptation was overtaken by two of last week's releases, making this potential franchise D.O.A.

'Need For Speed' Review

There are 35,000 deaths due to motor vehicle accidents in the United States each year. Every ten seconds someone is given emergency treatment because of a car crash. According to a report by the CDC the financial impact is close to $100 billion on injury care and lost productivity.
I know 'Need For Speed' is just a movie, and movies are entertainment, but it is shocking beyond all reason how much this movie thinks automotive safety is a big joke. I understand loving an outlaw, but when 'Bonnie & Clyde' robbed banks they were “punching up.” When Aaron Paul and his merry band of mayhem mechanics destroy public works and send innocent bystanders careening off of highways, they are “punching down.” 'Need For Speed,' its producers, writers, director and maybe even its stars should all hang their heads in shame.

When I got a chance to sit down with Aaron Paul on the set of his new movie, 'Need for Speed,' he was just coming off the conclusion of ‘Breaking Bad’ -- the show that launched him into stardom -- and he was in a great mood (at one point I think he wanted me to high five him, and I feel bad I didn’t). His energy is infectious, and he was great to talk to about his action film, which could be his launching point into leading man roles. (He’s going to follow it with a role in Ridley Scott’s ‘Exodus,’ so he’s in a good place).

'Need For Speed' Set Visit: How Director Scott Waugh Puts the Audience in the Driver's Seat

The main takeaway from my visit to the edit bay of ‘Need for Speed’ was the film’s emphasis on practical stunts, which seems the best way to make a video game adaptation as different and cinematic as possible. As we saw over the summer, the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise has become so big that many of its insane set pieces were created digitally, whereas the ‘Need for Speed’ team was locked into an almost all practical approach. For gearheads and action aficionados, this is the best possible scenario.

Football fans are no doubt excited for the 2014 Super Bowl, but even non-sports fans can find something to enjoy. No, we're not talking about Bruno Mars, we're talking about the Super Bowl movie trailers that will be airing during the commercial breaks. With the 2014 Super Bowl set to air on FOX at 6pm on February 2, we thought now would be the perfect time to run through what we know is going to debut during the big game and what surprises could still be in store.
