Andrew Garfield previously said that he'd like to see Spider-Man and The Avengers team up on-screen, but that doesn't mean his wants have become reality. Despite alleged photographic evidence of the web-slinging actor moseying around on the 'Avengers 2' set, it all turns out to be one big hoax!

World Weary: Why Not Every Superhero Franchise Needs a Universe of Its Own

Amazing Spider Man X Men
Sony Pictures/Marvel/20th Century Fox, Illustration by ScreenCrush.com

People love universes.

Or, more precisely: People love fictional universes. At least, I hear much more about the Marvel universe and the ‘Star Wars’ universe these days than our own infinitely fascinating real universe, but I digress. This isn’t inherently a bad thing – it’s not too surprising that serialized stories, which is really what we mean when we talk about universes – are popular. If a person likes a character, why shouldn’t he or she want to see more of that character?

Director Nicholas Stoller Takes A ‘Neighbors’ Victory Lap After Defeating Spider-Man

Stoller

Let's call this a victory lap for Nicholas Stoller. And, to be honest, Stoller deserves a victory lap after his movie, 'Neighbors,' surprisingly finished number one at the box office this past weekend (grossing over $61 million domestically to date) ousting 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' from the top spot. And, for Stoller, this marks the first time he's directed a number one film: His previous efforts -- 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' "Get Him to the Greek,' and 'The Five-Year Engagement' -- all fell short. And, for Stoller, he knew he had a hit movie when Universal stopped putting a limit on his daily per diem. Nicholas Stoller is officially a big shot.

Stoller called this past Thursday afternoon to discuss the success of 'Neighbors' (a movie, if you somehow don't know, about Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne's quiet neighborhood being turned upside down by Zac Efron and Dave Franco's noisy fraternity) and, boy, nothing can put someone in a good mood like having an unexpected number one movie. Ahead, Stoller takes a 'Neighbors' victory lap; explains why he wasn't worried about naming his movie after an ill-fated John Belushi movie; and, as a bonus. tells us exactly where in the movie we can see Christopher Mintz-Plasse's penis.

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Concept Art Shows Off Some Very Different Takes on the Green Goblin

Green Goblin Dane DeHaan
Sony

Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn doesn't become the villainous Green Goblin until the third act of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and he couldn't be more different than the previous cinematic take on the character. While original 'Spider-Man' director Sam Raimi put the iconic villain inside a full suit of armor, Marc Webb opted to pursue something slightly closer to the original comic book counterpart, giving the character a horror movie look that actually makes him resemble a monster. But, as is the case with all big movies like this, the final look was created after countless other designs were rejected and some newly released concept art gives us a look at the Goblin that could have been.

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Almost Had an Osborn-Centric End Credit Sequence

Amazing Spider Man 2 End Credit Stinger
Sony

This weekend 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' hit theaters (making over $91 million at the box office), and disappointed anyone who sat through all the end credits thinking they'd get additional footage about the next movie. We've known for a while the film wouldn't feature a sequel tease, but it's now been revealed that an end credit Easter egg sequence was shot that enlarged the role of Chris Cooper's Norman Osborn

Here’s Who Marc Webb Wants For the Sinister Six Lineup

Sinister Six lineup
Activision

While a Shazam-powered 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' post-credits scene seems to hint at a Sinister Six lineup, reports thereafter confirmed that the official movie lineup has actually yet to be decided upon by 'Amazing Spider-Man 3' director Marc Webb and 'Sinister Six' director Drew Goddard. As they work out their scripts for the upcoming Spidey films, it couldn't hurt to speculate, and who better to speculate than Marc Webb himself.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Has an Oscorp Problem (and It Could Derail ‘Sinister Six’)

Sony
Sony

Sony hasn't been shy about their plans for Spider-Man. Before 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' hit theaters, they had release dates for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 4.' They've announced spin-off films for Venom and the villainous supergroup known as the Sinister Six. The franchise's producers have openly mocked the idea of ever teaming up with Marvel Studios or 20th Century Fox for the kind of crossover comic fans all over the world so desperately crave.

In short, Sony wants to transform the Spider-Man movie franchise into a Spider-Man movie universe ... and as of right now, it's not working.
