'The Dark Knight Rises' hits DVD and Blu-ray on December 4th (just in time for the holidays!) and a few early copies have leaked in advance of the official release. One of the behind-the-scenes documentaries included on the discs shows off some behind-the-scenes photos of Tom Hardy as Bane plus some concept art on what Bane almost looked like.
Now this is an interesting looking project. Start with a novel by Dennis Lehane, whose work has inspired 'Shutter Island,' 'Mystic River' and 'Gone Baby Gone.' Put Michael Roskam, the Oscar-nominated director of the incredible 'Bullhead,' in the director's seat. Finally, headline it with Tom Hardy, easily one of the most interesting and talented actors working today. Yep, that's all you need to get us interested in 'Animal Rescue.'
'Tarzan' is about to swing into a theater near you with a big-budget new reboot at Warner Bros. David Yates, who directed the last four 'Harry Potter' films, has committed to direct an adaptation of 'Tarzan of the Apes' after years of development at the studio. And who does the studio want to star as their jungle king? Why, their favorite 'Dark Knight Rises' villain, of course.
2012 has been quite a year for eccentric performances. Matthew McConaughey in 'Magic Mike,' Michael Shannon in 'Premium Rush,' Rep. Todd Akin on the campaign trail. . .but the winner of this year's Walken/Cage prize surely has to go to the relative newcomer to the A-list Tom Hardy. Between his masked anarchist Bane in 'The Dark Knight Rises' and his authority-resistant bag of muscles, Forrest Bondurant, in John Hilcoat's 'Lawless,' Hardy has delivered two pugnacious, guttural turns that ought to keep the impressions coming for years.
It seems that Paramount is taking a page out of 'The Avengers' notebook by casting Kevin Costner in not one, but two Tom Clancy adaptations as the same character. First up is the Kenneth Branagh Jack Ryan reboot, and then the Christopher McQuarrie adaptation of 'Without Remorse' -- the latter of which is eyeing Tom Hardy to lead.
