If you are so far unfamiliar with the Will Smith-starring Focus (which opens tomorrow), but you have been keeping up with Smith’s late night appearances, you might be shocked to find that Focus is not about the rapper/actor reigniting his music career. After all, Smith has already resurrected “Getting Jiggy Wit It” for a recent Late Show appearance. Next up? “Summertime.” Just go on tour, Will Smith.

It’s been a decade since Will Smith was “Will Smith” onscreen. Sure, he’s made movies in the last ten years; science-fiction pictures, dramas, comedies. He even played Satan, once. But none of them riffed on that classic Will Smith persona that everyone loves; the infectious charm, the seductive smile, the cocky but casual swagger. (What’s that? Men in Black 3? No, they never made a third Men in Black. You must be confused.)

Alert, alert: Will Smith still has it. The star of the upcoming con man romantic comedy drama (co-ma rom-com-dram?) Focus hit The Late Show last night to chat it up with host David Letterman and, oh, yeah, to just randomly rap “Gettin Jiggy Wit It” alongside Letterman’s own band. Sure, most late night guests just walk out on stage, give a big hello, and sit down, but not Smith, who seemed determined to remind everyone of his rap roots.

Just last month we saw the first trailer for ‘Focus,’ the new con-man romance thriller starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie as quite an ambitious pair of criminals, who let their feelings for each other get in the way of their schemes. Today brings a second, longer trailer for the film, which sheds a little more light on the plot and brings these two classy criminals into, um, focus.
