How Brie Larson Knew Woody Harrelson Was Right for ‘The Glass Castle’
In The Glass Castle, Woody Harrelson plays a man constantly living on the edge. His Rex Walls is an alcoholic father with good intentions but untraditional, even dangerous, parenting methods. In the film, Destin Daniel Cretton’s adaptation of Jeanette Walls’ New York Times best-selling memoir of the same name, Brie Larson portrays the adult version of the author as she reflects on her tumultuous childhood and complicated relationship with her father, Rex. It was only after Larson was trapped by a thunderstorm with Harrelson in real life, unsure if she was entirely safe or not, that the Oscar winner knew Harrelson was the right fit for the role.

Brie Larson’s The Glass Castle definitely looks like one of those awards-bait family drama movies that actors join up with when they really, really want to win an Oscar. But Larson has already won an Oscar, and keep in mind that this is from Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Short Term 12, the movie that effectively launched Larson’s leap to stardom.

Earlier this week, rumors swirled that Samuel L. Jackson would reprise his role as Nick Fury for Captain Marvel. The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been living in hiding ever since his last appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he’s set to make a comeback in both installments of Infinity War. And today, we’ve learned that he’ll also show up to recruit Captain Marvel into the fold.

Samuel L. Jackson hasn’t appeared in the MCU since Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015 — which wasn’t all that long ago in real-time, but with Marvel releasing two new superhero films every year, it feels like it’s been an eternity since the last time we saw Nick Fury on the big screen. That’s going to change relatively soon, as Jackson is set to appear in both Infinity War and its follow-up, and according to a new rumor, he may also have a part in another highly-anticipated MCU film.

For my money, Rose Mary Walls is the worst mother in the whole of literature, and that includes Sophie Portnoy. A million-dollar heiress who refused her wealth because she believed it’d be good for her children to grow up in abject poverty with a profligate alcoholic, she put her daughter Jeannette through hell. Jeannette would later translate her tragic upbringing into the best-selling memoir The Glass Castle, which director Destin Daniel Cretton will soon translate once more onto the silver screen. And in addition to the first official still above, that film has inched closer to being by laying claim to a release date.

Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel movie is going to be a pretty big deal, not only because it’s Marvel’s first ever female-led superhero movie. It also stars Brie Larson, who is perhaps Hollywood’s most exponentially rising star. Larson recently talked a bit about the role and how she’s been working with Marvel to create the character of Carol Danvers.

Now that it has not one director, but two, Captain Marvel is off to the races. And not a moment too soon, if we’re to expect this movie to still come out in March 2019. Can you believe we still have to wait almost two whole years for Marvel’s first female-led superhero movie? The movie has its star in Brie Larson, but we still have no idea what the plot is going to be, or if any other superheroes we know are going to be in it. What we do know is that it’ll start filming in a little over 9 months from now.
