There's been some serious momentum on 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,' the sequel to last year's surprise hit 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.' First, we learned that 'Cloverfield' director Matt Reeves will helm the sequel, and now the film's script will get a rewrite, courtesy of 'Wolverine' writer Mark Bomback.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
It seemed that after 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,' the sequel to the James Franco-starring 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes,' set a release date for May 23, 2014, the entire production fell into a short bit of chaos. Rupert Wyatt, who was originally pegged to direct the film, gave up the gig presumably in favor of 'Agent 13,' starring Charlize Theron. Thankfully, 20th Century Fox built up a shortlist of directors, and they've finally selected 'Cloverfield' helmer Matt Reeves to step in.
Big day for release date news, as Fox has set May 23, 2014 for 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,' the sequel to last year's 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.'
'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' was one of last year's biggest critical and financial surprises at the box office. The 20th Century Fox hit had Oscar buzz for motion capture star Andy Serkis and a sequel was greenlit by Fox soon after the film hit theaters. Now the apes will rise again with addition of another new writer.
It's hard to keep track of all the great stories coming out of CinemaCon this week, but one of the coolest is the news that 20th Century Fox is gearing up for a sequel to 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.' One of last year's most pleasant surprises, the film was both a critical and commercial success, and Fox is saying that they want to start shooting this summer.
